Happy Birthday Gretchen!

Now that I have confirmation that Gretchen has received her birthday gift, I can post it here! I made this dress for my sister to wear in Texas as she's relaxing at home. When we were growing up, we lived in rural Wisconsin and didn't have A/C at our house. It could get pretty hot and sticky late in the summer and we got in the habit of taking evening showers to relax before watching TV. It was too early for pajamas but we didn't just want to put on our day clothes that were dirty. So we had a series of cute simple dresses to lay around in. They were perfect. Gretchen said that she could use one down in Texas but couldn't find any in stores that were like the kind we had as kids. So I found this Simplicity pattern and actually managed to put it together!! It has darts, which I had never done before and hopefully they work with her body, and gathered the waistline for a little floucne. The buttons go all of the way down the front and I even managed to line up the waist properly on each side. I am really pleased with how it turned out and I sure hope it fits and can serve it's purpose for Gretchen.

It was also fun that both my Mum and sister mentioned that it looked just like the dresses my Grandma used to wear around the house many years ago. I get a lot of sewing inspiration from Grandma O and I think she would be proud of this dress too!
